I have a couple of more rims I'm making. Will post them here.... I moved the post to projects in progress because this section seemed more suitable.

    Tough crowd.
Well, I really like them Dom. Particularly the pressed steel looking style on the 55. They look good.
How did you do them? Are they machined or are they a plastic thing?

Hey DTW.   I took mold making 101 off you tube.   Lol.   Inserts using original rims.   That it.  And then spun them on my lathe to true them and have a nice tight fit.   6 bolt hole on both types.   I'm working on the center hubcap for the chevy rims.   I'm gonna spin them on the lathe and make them out of aluminum.

George.... In the past I've have been willing to share the secrets of my little contributions to this hobby.  Unfortunately... I'm taking my trials and errors to the grave but will share the finished products...  It's not rocket science thou...  Hobby lobby sells a molding kit... The brand name is Aluminite....  It has a rubber mold and 2 part plastic kit in it.... I took mold making 101 on YouTube and off I went...

They are not aluminum.... There Plastic...  Painted... And. What it takes to make the part look like aluminum is a lot of work....  There a little on the expensive side with time , effort and materials all said and done...for a plastic part.....  But , great looking runners or even show wheels for the price compared to the more expensive ones.....

The mold has change 3 times from the original....  I have molds for every type of rim , plastic and aluminum, 4 bolt and 6 bolt...... My chevy rims come in 5 and 6 bolt holes as well... No plans on selling them.... But if they do get sold it will be on a car...

    Thanx for appreciating the work....

I really like the look of the replacement centers. The 55 Chevy ones are very nice, and correct looking to go with all of the other custom touches in that one.

thanx Gearhead....  trying to make them look as real as possible and not cost you a arm an a leg..... hell... theres a handfull of wheel makers out there doing the same thing... stuck in some look of stock car, bbs race wheelr, drag car or the famous oversized spoked rims..HUGE chunks of aluminum to  make them and they weigh a ton..... theres one guy that makes gorgeous spoked rims but i couldnt even afford the shipping from where there coming from  let alone those things...lol

so.... as always.... i make my own stuff....  the inserts are just the beginning...  i plan on making my own rims some time in the future.... heres some pics of the chevy rim and vintage tire set up....  its a 1 inch rim and a custom back half to make it complete....

the reason for the custom half is the vintage tire is not as wide as (2) 1 inch wheel halves...  long time over do for tire size and look changes....

working on the hub caps now

these are going on the front of my chevy..... hope you enjoy them

Finally my seven inch monsters are complete with the rubber treatment applied on the side walls..a nice addition to my 55..next to figure out what tread I want and start carving away .....  I think at this point the only limit to the tire design and size is my own Imagination.....Soo......for me....you can keep those SORRY ASS over priced Good Year tires..just my opinion...lol....ill be selling mine....  at a premium price of course  Laughing
and some one will buy them Laughing

hmmmmmm   gotta love those rim centers
